Bike Gear Database: An off-road cycling website & community
Product Ownership, Content Design
Bike Gear Database is more than just a passion project—it’s a testament to my growth as a product owner. I built the entire site from scratch, using React and Next.js, learning and implementing technical SEO, and optimizing for page performance along the way. What started as a bicycle geometry archive has transformed into a robust content platform, hosting nearly 200 original articles from over twenty writers worldwide.
In the beginning, the site served as a tool to compare bikes across brands. I wrote a bunch of Python scripts to scrape and normalize data from vendor websites. But as I dove deeper into the world of SEO and content creation, I realized that original articles held more value for readers and search engines. That insight led me to make the tough decision to shift focus entirely to content.
Today, Bike Gear Database attracts around 30,000 visitors a month and sees about 50,000 page views, with traffic continuing to grow daily. I monitor analytics closely, making data-driven decisions to continuously improve the site. This experience has helped me embrace the role of a product owner, a new and exciting direction that ties together my love for design and technical expertise with passion for off-road cycling.
